Brown Van Heusen Shirts
Welcome to Pick Up The Thread, a place where if you were to stumble across it and you happened to be interested in the niche intersection of menswear, ecommerce and proper-people-at-the-shop-counter retail you may learn from at least one of my mistakes or at least have a little pity laugh.
Back in 2009 my mum and I started out taking photos on the kitchen table to try and clear some old stock on eBay, from Dorma Country Diary bedding to size 14.5 brown Van Heusen shirts and even the odd hellish Rocola rainbow stripe party shirt. From there I finished my A levels and opted not to go to Leeds and study Economics. We’d launched on Amazon a little earlier and things went from there.
16 years on from those heady days on eBay, we’ve changed just a little. The home department has been wound down and today we try and live up to our tagline of being ‘The Lifestyle Outfitters’ and focus on men’s and women’s clothing and footwear. My father retired last year after 53 years behind the counter and I took over the helm of the family business, Potters of Buxton (pottersofbuxton.co.uk) which my grandparents bought in 1971.
Again a lot of evolution has happened since then and I’m just getting started, I suspect the same will be the case with this Substack. Pick Up The Thread, will be home for amongst other things a compilation of ideas, musings, observations and those all-important mistakes I promised.
